2022 Installation
vibrating sieve, glas, archive lamps,
renovation waste from several places around Katowice, PL
Curation: Adrian Chorębała
In 2022 I traveled several places in the cowl mining area around Katowice in Upper-Silesia. Nowhere in Europe the dust pollution is higher than in the south of Poland. I visited places that are facing massive upheaval, not least due to pressure from the European Union. Mines are being closed down. But there can be no talk of quiet: Where once the chimneys created clouds, where steel was made ductile with a thunderous noise, heavy construction equipment now stands and tears down what was once built“ „Similar to a sand souvenir sold on mediterranean beaches, the installation fills preserving jars with renovation dust. A vibrating sieve loaded with rubble, grates the stones together and the dust falls down into the jar. The work was created as part of my travel grant from Hessische Kultur Stiftung to the coal mining region around Katowice.
