"What does it mean when the place where you live and grew up simply disappears? This has been the experience of the inhabitants of Manheim (NRW) since 2011, as their village had to be relocated to Manheim-neu, which was created in 2012, in the course of lignite mining in the Hambach open-cast mine. Manheim, however, is only one of many places in the Rhenish mining area to meet this fate. Artists Max Brück and Mathias Weinfurter take it as an occasion for an artistic investigation into the relationship between culture, memory and identity."
